First Time Central Heating (FTCH) Overview

Hand putting wall insulation into a cabity wall

If a property has never had central heating, the occupier may be eligible for a first-time central heating grant under the ECO scheme.

Radiators connected to a boiler can be installed to provide an efficient central heating system that warms the entire property.

When considering a new heating system, it is worthwhile to consider air source heat pumps, which are a modern alternative to traditional boiler-based central heating systems. While more expensive initially, they are low-cost to run.

To maximize the benefits of a new heating system, it’s important to ensure the property is insulated before installation. This minimizes heat loss. The installer will ensure that the roof and cavity walls (if present) are insulated.
